About the Book

Euthanasia controversy has assumed global proportion. The theme of the book relates to the very critical issue. Both proponents and opponents of the issue of the legalising Euthanasia vehemently put their arguments for and against it. In India too, the same controversy continued to be debated over a period of more than two decades. The present researcher has delved deep into the attitude of doctors, lawyers and academics towards legalising Euthanasia in India and presented it absolutely. He has covered the issue in its four dimensions : (i) the attitudes of the respondents towards the legalization of Euthanasia and PAS i.e. whether they favour it or oppose it; (ii) their reasons for doing so; (iii) the risks of abuse or misuse of Euthanasia if legalised, and by whom and why; and (iv) the due care criteria or protocol to be followed for minimizing or eliminating those risks.

To achieve the above objective the descriptive research design has been adopted. It is accomplished by constructing a structured questionnaire consisting of two scales and other relevant questions that aim at exploring the attitudes and views of a selected sample of three hundred respondents who are drawn by using random sample technique. The sample consisted of three sub-categories of sub-samples of doctors, lawyers and academics (hundred each). The data, thus, gathered has been analyzed, interpreted and inferences drawn by using appropriate statistical techniques like Cronbachs alpha, Z test and Chi Square test. This book will be of great use to scholars and researchers in the field of Medical Sociology.

The Present book explodes many myths regarding the issue of Euthanasia and Physician assisted suicide and it will be also help to Concerned Authorities to formulate a sound national policy on legalization of Euthanasia.
