Purposes

 It helps the child in visual discrimination of three different dimensions (length, breadth and height).Cubes vary from one cubic cm to 10 cubic cm this enhances child's civil engineering skills while constructing tower and also stair pattern, he learns biggest to smallest, ascending to descending and tenness in the materials lays the foundation for decimal system.

How to use:

Presentation 1:

Encourage the child to carry one cube at a time to the working area, arrange it in a random order on the working mat. Now estimate the biggest cube, bring it to the centre to make a concentric tower, place the next estimated cube exactly in the centre of the previous cube. Continue the same till the smallest cube, take a aerial view to visually perceive the tower.

Presentation 2:

Wall formation is made by placing cubes in a manner that one corner and two sides of each cube are even with the previous one. Each time a new cube is added, stoke with left four fingers and right four fingers of your hands so as to feel the evenness of the sides. Continue the same till the smallest cube. Use the smallest cube to show that it fits around the sides of other cubes.

 

Pre and post related activities:

This can be related to the natural environment where the child arranges boxes, books, bedding, mattress and arrangement of his own clothes and all possible variations in the environment.
